Would you like to write for Sail Couture? Or maybe you have some amazing photography that you’d like to share and promote to our more than 40,000 Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter fans? We want to hear from you!

But before you submit your work, have a look at our submission guidelines for writers and photographers below.

Writers

Sail Couture accepts author pitches and unsolicited manuscripts throughout the year about sailing, sailboats, travel, food & wine, and fashion.

We cover all aspects of sailing, from learning to sail to Grand Prix racing, from sailboat design to interviews with world-class sailors. If you’ve sailed on a sleek new boat in the Caribbean, checked off a bucket list regatta, toured the yacht clubs of Europe, or have the ear of a top sailor (especially female sailors), we’d love to hear your story.

While not every article has to include sailing or sailboats, we prefer travel, food & wine, and fashion articles that give at least a nod to the nautical lifestyle. Have you explored a must-see island in the Adriatic? Do you know an up-and-coming designer that’s featuring mariner’s stripes in their next collection? Or maybe you’ve dined at an incredible new restaurant on the water in Boston? The range of articles that we publish is quite wide, so send us your pitch!

Stories range from short Weekend Getaways between 500–700 words to features of up to 2500 words. We prefer stories accompanied with amazing photography—sometimes our authors provide the photographs, and sometimes photographs are provided by a regatta host. In your pitch, please be sure to include whether or not photographs will be supplied or at least possible sources.

Manuscripts are preferred in 12-point standard font and should be sent as a Word document. We do not accept documents sent as PDFs, Pages, or Google Docs. Sail Couture conforms to a house style based on the Chicago Manual of Style (we’ll send you the style guide if your pitch is accepted). A Sail Couture editor will edit your article to conform to our house style.

All articles that appear on sailcouture.com are heavily promoted on social media, so be sure to include your Facebook/Instagram/Twitter handles so we can tag you in the post and give you credit as the author.

Send pitches (or full manuscripts) to sail@sailcouture.com with “Pitch” in the subject line. A brief author bio should be included in the pitch. We review all pitches as quickly as we can and will reply whether your pitch is accepted or not. Unless your pitch is time sensitive (an upcoming regatta), please allow one month before following up.

Photographers

We love beautiful photography of anything and everything that has to do with the sea. If you have a series of photographs that would be appropriate for a photo essay, you can send low-res jpg files for our consideration to sail@sailcouture.com with “Photo Pitch” in the subject line.

If we love the photographs, but you aren’t a writer, we’ll contact you for medium resolution images (1170 pixels on the horizontal edge) appropriate for the Sail Couture website and set up a time to do a quick phone interview about the story.

Do not send medium or large images as email attachments or embedded in a Word document. If requested, please send a zipped file via WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

Most photographs published on sailcouture.com are used in social media, so be sure to send us your Facebook/Instagram/Twitter handles so we can tag you in the post and give you credit as the photographer.

If you have images on Instagram, you’d like us to repost, simply tag us in the caption @sailcouture and/or use #sailcouture.
