There is something special about one-design racing… The way the boats stack on corners, evenly matched and ultra competitive.
Here in San Francisco, the St. Francis Yacht Club hosts the Spring and Fall One-Design Invitational Regattas.
This Spring 19 J105s, 15 Express 27s, 10 Knarrs, six Melges 24s, six Open 5.70s met to kick off the season. It was a celebration of sailing in traditional, modern and cutting-edge boats.
I tagged along with the race committee as they set about their valuable work for Spring One-Design. Whether you are an avid racer, or club spectator, it’s always important to remember it’s the race committee that makes all the regattas we enjoy possible. We all need to give back, not just in thanks but in time. Although when volunteering it’s not all giving; watching the racers can be an excellent learning experience.
It was a beautiful day for sailing. I’ll share some of my photos.
Cheers to the racing season!
